Full Moon Ritual - DIY
Why do we give such deep attention to the Full Moon?
In astrology, the lunar cycles bring us through the blessings of 13 cycles a year and are directly related to our emotions and mind field.
Energetically (and physically), the full moon brings pressure to the waters of our planet creating higher/lower tides (depending on where you are), while simultaneously creating pressure to the waters of our own bodies.
This tends to cause an uprise in emotional activity, and if one lacks grounding or awareness of Self, this time can result in a bit of chaos as people react rather than respond respectfully. Hence, the increase in accidents, hospitalizations and arrests during the full moon. However, with awareness, we have the ability to gain emotional wisdom and allow our emotions to be tools rather than something that controls us.
The moon, especially at it’s peak fullness, can bring clarity of mind and supports our instinctive will to let go of the old. Of course, we may have resistances to letting go of anything we may have emotional attachment or investment in, but the full moon encourages us and supports us in letting go.
Something that helps me in letting go is remembering that when I let go of anything that is no longer serving my highest good - a belief, a habit, a person, place or thing - it is making space in my mind, body, heart and overall life for newness to flow in. How are you supposed to manifest something/someone new if there is already something/someone taking up that space in your reality?
Last but not least, the full moon offers great cleansing and recharging energy. If you place your crystals or sacred items outside or on a window sill to bask in the moonlight, it helps them to continue working at their fullest capacity. And remember, you also are a crystal, so allow your Self to bask, too!
Full Moon Ritual Practice Suggestions:
1) Set up a small alter space if you do not have one. Your alter could be in your bedroom, living room, a closet or even be a tree outside your house. Whatever special space and items that may offer you quiet time to go within and keep your intentions alive.
2) Item suggestions that can support your alter space:
* A Journal to write out intentions, insights or questions you are ready to receive answers to.
* Crystals or stones you feel called to. Depending on the type of crystal chosen, using their different energies/frequencies, crystals can help to amplify energy, ground energy, clear energy, protect energy or all of the above. Moonstone, Obsidian & Quartz are always great ones for the full moon.
* Sound: Singing Bowl, Gong, Voice (toning, singing, chanting), Tingshas or other instruments that help to clear the space (and your mind!) energetically. These are not needed but highly encouraged.
* Incense or Sage to assist in clearing static or unwanted energies/thoughts.
* Oracle or Tarot cards that you can confide in for extra guidance or insights. If you partake in calling in your guides/higher Self (#5), the cards offer a visual tool for them to communicate with you.
* Nature – plants, flowers, seeds, leaves, dirt; again, anything that feels sacred, grounding and/or supportive to your spiritual journey
You can maintain this space and allow it to be your daily/weekly go to or your new/full moon ritual space.
3) Sage your Self, your alter space, the room. Sage helps to dissolve and remove any distorted energies and/or entities that may be disrupting the energy of the/your space.
Tip: Counterclockwise direction and motion, with intention, helps to remove/release and clockwise, with intention, helps to bring in and seal in the loving, supportive energies/guides. Speak/think with kind but firm words, and call in assistance from your guides if you feel called, to remove and bring in those energies.
4) 5 Minutes of Breathing to ground and open. Ground into your body and calm your mind. Some deep breathing into the belly and staying focused on your breath does wonders, and breathing your last few intentional breaths into your heart-space to help clear, ground into and expand your heart space, preparing you for a heart-centered experience. Breathwork also helps to open your energy and mind field to set clear intentions, as well as, receive insights, intuition and guidance.
This is a great time to bring in any of the instruments here as well.
5) Creating a Supportive Environment.
To me, I feel it is an important part of our human experience to realize we are not alone, that there are layers of existence beyond what most of our physical eyes/ears can perceive and to somehow in this crazy shared reality trust that there are beings/energies and/or God out there that wish to support us.
I have experienced their support time and time again, but I’ve realized they really only make profound moves to guide me when I actually ask for help. This is because we live in a world where Free-Will stays true, so our guides cannot intervene in our lives unless permission is granted.
Within your heart mind, in your journal or out loud, call in any of your Spirit Guides, your Angels, your Higher Selves, God, Goddess, the plant kingdom, Mother Earth herself…whom or whatever you may wish to ask for assistance from. If this is not part of your practice, you can choose to connect to your heart/soul or a deeper part of You.
Letting them know a generalized Why you are calling them in is helpful, such as:
”I kindly ask for your support in bringing clarity to my heart and mind, helping to resolve any inner conflict I may be experiencing and for clear guidance in moving forward. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Then you can get down to specifics in #6.
6) Write down the questions below (or something like them) in your journal. Remembering that the full moon is about clarity, letting go and faith that courage to let go helps to create new….to evolve beyond where you have once been.
With your eyes closed - Ask your Self:
Where am I feeling resistance?
Why might that be?
What is ready to be released? (this could be a belief, behavior, habit, person, place or thing)
What is currently in alignment that deserves my attention?
With each answer you receive, feel free to open your eyes and write down the answers. Going within to seek these answers is a powerful practice, and the connection/guidance gets stronger and clearer with practice. You can also utilize your Oracle or Tarot cards for guidance if that feels like a positive tool for you.
Feel free to tune into the Full Moon Insights first for more direction on this month’s specific energy.
TIP: This is also a great time to confide in your Oracle or Tarot cards for further insights and guidance!
7) With the clarity gained, write down your intentions and/or affirmations.
Intentions/affirmations are written as either stated facts such as “I Am releasing…” or “I Am calling in…”
or can also be statements calling in support such as “______, Please help me to release…I Am open to receive your assistance.”
*You can either keep these intentions propped up on your alter, set under something on your alter for private keeping, or you can also burn them under the moon to solidify their creation into new energy (do this in a safe space of course! A metal bowl outside is a great option.)
8) Offer your gratitude to your guides, your Self and be on your way.
